Contract Senior Software Engineer (Java Spring)

Location: Atlanta, GA, United States. People Before Place Hybrid model; most employees can choose where they work most days. Minimal travel is associated with the role.

Minimum base compensation: $85 per hour.

What you will do

• Design and implement Java/Spring loyalty engine services for transaction processing, tier calculation, reward accrual, and benefit eligibility.
• Build RESTful APIs using contract-first development, aggregation patterns, caching, circuit breaking, and graceful degradation.
• Establish service architecture, domain models, event-driven state management, API versioning, backward compatibility, and integration contracts.
• Develop integrations with POS, CRM, commerce, identity, analytics, finance, and other enterprise platforms.
• Implement authentication, session management, idempotency, observability, correlation IDs, security controls, and audit trails.
• Lead projects, influence roadmaps, improve delivery practices, and mentor engineers and other leaders.

Requirements

• 6–10 years of software development experience with an emphasis on backend development.
• Extensive Java and Spring ecosystem experience, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, and Spring Data.
• Experience with RESTful API design, OpenAPI/Swagger, domain-driven design, event-driven systems, integration patterns, and relational databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus Docker, Kubernetes, Git, CI/CD, and automated testing.
• Expertise in security and identity protocols including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML.
• Must already have an employment visa effective for at least three years from the application date; employment visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with loyalty, rewards, financial calculation, fintech, payments, or audit-critical systems.
• Experience with BFF or API aggregation layers, mobile API contracts, POS integrations, Salesforce CRM, or Commerce Cloud.
• Experience with complex account hierarchies, feature flags, progressive rollout, and NoSQL databases.
