Filter Setup Guide: How to Find the Best Jobs

This guide will help you master Hirify search 100%. Follow these tips to find the most relevant jobs and not miss anything important.

Don't want to read all this?

Use AI filter configuration - just describe what kind of job you're looking for, and the system will automatically configure all filters for you. (While in beta - complex requests are better assembled manually)

Main Principle: Exclude, Don't Select

The most effective way to work with filters is to exclude what doesn't suit you, rather than selecting what does.

Why is this important? Job data is often incomplete. For example, the job poster might have forgotten to specify the employment type. If you select the "Full-time" filter, the system won't show you that job, and you might miss a great opportunity. When you exclude, you're guaranteed not to see irrelevant jobs, but you'll keep jobs with incomplete data in your results.

It's better to see a few not-quite-perfect jobs than to miss one ideal one.

Exclusions work great for:

  • Work format: Exclude Office and Hybrid if you're only looking for remote work.
  • Levels: Exclude Senior and Lead if you're a Junior specialist.
  • English: Exclude B2+ if you don't have a high level of English.
  • Currency: Exclude RUB if you're looking for jobs with salaries in dollars or euros.
  • Company types: Exclude Outsource or Startups if you don't want to work for them.
  • Locations: Exclude Russia if you're only looking for jobs abroad.

Step 1: Choose Your Search Strategy

Depending on your position, it's better to use one of two approaches.

Approach 1: Search by Title in Search Bar

This method is ideal for positions whose titles are industry standards and rarely have synonyms.

Good for: Project Manager, Product Manager, Business Analyst, System Analyst, Product Designer, Graphic Designer, Motion Designer.

How to proceed:

  1. Enter the exact job title in the search bar (e.g., Product Manager).
  2. Use quotes "" for maximum accuracy if the title consists of multiple words. The query "Product Engineer" will show jobs only with this exact phrase. Without quotes, the system will find both Product Security Engineer and other irrelevant options.
  3. Apply basic exclusions to narrow down results (e.g., by level or work format).

Approach 2: Search by Specialization and Skills

If your job title has many synonyms ("Senior Software Engineer", "Lead Developer", "Programmer"), this is the most reliable method.

Good for: Backend developers, Frontend developers, QA engineers, AI engineers, DevOps engineers, Mobile developers.

How to proceed:

The logic is simple: first select the main direction and key technologies, then remove everything unnecessary using exclusions. Let's break it down with a specific example.

Example: Setting up search for Frontend Developer (React)

Goal: find remote work for Middle+ React developer in Russia without English requirements.

✅ Select
  • Specialization: frontend_dev
  • Key skills: React, Next
❌ Exclude

Basic exclusions:

  • Work formats: office, hybrid
  • Levels: trainee, junior
  • English: B2, C1, C2

Refining exclusions (to clean up results):

  • Unwanted skills: Angular, Vue.js

Result: You'll get a precise selection of remote jobs for React developers at Middle level and above, filtered from other frameworks and entry-level positions.

Step 2: Use Advanced Features

Combine Approaches for Better Results

Use filters and the search bar together to get the most accurate results.

Example: You're looking for a Project Manager position but want to work exclusively in the game development industry.

  1. In the search bar enter "Project Manager".
  2. In the "Industry" filter select gamedev.

Boolean Search: For Searching Multiple Positions

You can use OR and AND operators to group terms in your search query.

Important: this mode searches ONLY in the job title field. Use it when searching for multiple roles at once.

Example: Data Analyst OR Business Analyst - will find jobs whose titles contain either "Data Analyst" or "Business Analyst".

Minus Words

Use a hyphen - directly in the search bar to exclude jobs with certain words in the title.

Example: qa -java will show all QA jobs but hide those mentioning Java.

Step 3: Configure Job Sources (Caution!)

This filter is a powerful tool, but it can significantly reduce the number of jobs in results. By default, search is performed across all sources. Change these settings only if you have a specific goal.

"Direct Contact Only" Option

Activate this option if you want to see only jobs where you can directly contact the recruiter or hiring manager.

Job Source Selection:

  • Hirify and Telegram: Jobs posted directly by recruiters on Hirify or in Telegram channels. Usually contain direct contact.
  • Ru-global: Jobs from companies with Eastern European roots that hire Russian-speaking specialists. Usually require English (minimum B1) and location outside Russia/Belarus. Collected from career sites.
  • Global: Jobs from international companies. Usually require English (minimum B2) and location outside Russia/Belarus. Collected from career sites.

Useful Tips

  • Create multiple subscriptions. If you're looking for jobs in different positions (e.g., both Backend and DevOps), create a separate subscription for each role. The system will automatically remove duplicates from notifications.
  • Search for jobs with all skills at once. By default, the system searches for jobs where at least one of the specified skills is present. If you need jobs where both React and TypeScript are required, activate the "AND" toggle in the skills filter.
