Senior Counsel - Claim (Insurance Defense)

Location: Albany, New York, United States; regular attendance at hearings, trials, depositions, court events, and other appointments is required, with travel as needed.

Annual base salary: $132,800–$219,100, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Independently manage higher-exposure cases and complex insurance defense litigation through trial and appeal.
• Try cases to verdict, negotiate resolutions, and apply advanced litigation techniques.
• Conduct legal research; draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive documents.
• Attend hearings, trials, depositions, court events, and other appointments.
• Advise insured clients and claim partners on case analysis, file-handling strategies, and litigation recommendations.
• Develop case strategies with expert witnesses and consultants, maintain client relationships, provide legal training, and mentor attorneys and legal support staff.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including insurance defense litigation.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• Proven experience handling jury trials, hearings, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, and other court proceedings.
• Advanced oral and written advocacy, legal research, negotiation, case analysis, and presentation skills.
• Valid driver's license may be required depending on the location.
