Packaging Engineer

Location: Clackamas, Oregon, USA; onsite. Monday–Friday shift, with schedule discussed during the interview. The role may exceed 40 hours per week based on business needs. Legal right to work in the United States is required.

Salary: $80,276–$114,680 per year.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for finished-format packaging equipment, materials, and packaging inputs across internal plants and contract manufacturing partners.
• Evaluate packaging materials and define specifications for films, laminates, cartons, foils, adhesives, labels, and other structural or printed components.
• Optimize material-to-machine settings, including tension, sealing parameters, and forming conditions, to improve throughput and reduce jams, defects, and downtime.
• Troubleshoot packaging performance issues such as tracking, tearing, seal failures, static, and curling, and recommend equipment, material, or supplier adjustments.
• Support packaging capital projects, equipment upgrades, new installations, preventive maintenance planning, and cross-functional execution with engineering, operations, suppliers, and external manufacturing partners.
• Lead packaging changes, material qualification, change control, production trials, and validation of manufacturability, efficiency, seal integrity, quality, and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of packaging engineering experience in a manufacturing or contract manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of packaging equipment, material properties, and preventive maintenance strategies.
• Experience supporting capital projects and collaborating with global teams and contract manufacturing organizations.
• Strong project management, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States and pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with regulatory and quality standards for dietary supplement or food packaging.
• Experience balancing packaging cost, sustainability, operational efficiency, and material performance.
