Plant Optimization Engineer (Salt Lake City, UT)

Location: Onsite at the corrugated box plant in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The role requires rotation across first, second, or third shifts and travel as necessary.

Salary: $83,000–$86,000 per year, plus an annual bonus based on individual contribution and company performance.

What you will do

• Complete a two-year rotational training program in maintenance and production at a corrugated box plant.
• Organize and implement moderate to large process-improvement, problem-elimination, capital, and expense projects.
• Improve equipment health, plant reliability, throughput, scrap reduction, and downtime performance.
• Recommend and implement solutions for equipment, facility, and plant operations.
• Collaborate with plant leadership, operators, maintenance personnel, mentors, and other Plant Optimization Engineers.
• Provide engineering support across plant functions and develop a future career path in production or maintenance leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering completed before starting the position.
• 0–2 years of engineering experience, including internships or co-ops, in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Ability to work first, second, or third shift during production rotations.
• Ability to travel as necessary with valid documents for air and car travel.
• Hands-on manufacturing mindset with strong communication, interpersonal, listening, evaluation, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Ability to learn quickly, create alternative solutions, meet deadlines, and collaborate across departments.

Nice to have

• Internship or co-op experience, especially in manufacturing.
• Degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical, paper, industrial and systems, manufacturing engineering, or engineering technology.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, shop-floor software, or maintenance work-order systems.
• Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Statistical Process Control experience.
