Plant Optimization Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: Cincinnati, OH, based at a corrugated box plant facility; must work first, second, or third shift as needed during production rotations and travel as necessary.

Salary: $83,000–$86,000 annually, plus an annual bonus based on individual contribution and company performance.

What you will do

• Rotate through all departments at a corrugated plant and complete assigned learning objectives and technical training.
• Organize and implement moderate to large process improvements, problem-elimination initiatives, and capital or expense projects focused on asset health and plant reliability.
• Develop and implement solutions to improve equipment, facilities, and plant operations, including scrap reduction, throughput improvement, and downtime reduction.
• Provide engineering support across plant functions and collaborate with plant leadership, other Plant Optimization Engineers, machine operators, and maintenance operators.
• Attend POE program conferences and off-site training while working with a mentor or manager to define a career path.
• Upon successful completion of the two-year program, transition into a full-time role at the current plant or another plant or paper mill, with potential paths in Production or Maintenance leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering required before starting the position.
• 0–2 years of engineering experience required, including internships and co-ops, with technical support experience in a manufacturing plant or industrial environment.
• Ability to work first, second, or third shift during production department rotations.
• Ability to travel as necessary and valid documents for air and car travel required.
• Self-driven approach and willingness to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong verbal, written, listening, evaluation, problem-solving, interpersonal, leadership, networking, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to learn quickly, apply new knowledge, create alternative solutions, meet deadlines, and communicate procedures, policies, practices, and information across the company.
• Previous team experience or a strong understanding of open communication and information sharing between team members.

Nice to have

• At least one internship or co-op, especially in a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Paper, Industrial & Systems, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology; other engineering majors may be considered depending on experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, shop floor software, maintenance work order systems, or other manufacturing systems.
• Experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Statistical Process Control (SPC).
