Senior/SME Space Based Sensing Engineer (Radar)

Location: Chantilly, Virginia, United States; travel as needed

Salary: $180,000+ USD annually, depending on experience, certifications, and qualifications

What you will do

• Provide independent technical assessments of contractor designs, architectures, and performance.
• Support requirements development, design reviews, integration, testing, verification, and other systems engineering lifecycle activities.
• Evaluate radar payload performance, RF hardware development, production testing, and system-level trade studies.
• Support MBSE and digital engineering, including performance modeling, multi-sensor integration, and data fusion.
• Analyze end-to-end mission performance across sensors, ground systems, processing, and dissemination.
• Identify technical risks, develop mitigation recommendations, and brief government leadership and senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related technical field; a master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in aerospace, space systems, or defense programs.
• Experience across the full system lifecycle, including requirements, design, integration, test, and operations.
• Strong background in space-based ISR systems, radar systems, or RF payloads.
• Experience with radar design or signal processing, RF payload development, performance modeling, mission data processing, or ground system architectures.
• Experience with MBSE and SysML tools such as Cameo or MagicDraw, plus the ability to assess contractor performance and brief senior leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting government program offices in a SETA or similar role.
• Familiarity with DoD and intelligence community acquisition processes, including JCIDS and DoD 5000 series.
• Experience with satellite and payload engineering, communications systems, crypto integration, multi-sensor integration, or data fusion.
• Experience supporting integration and test campaigns, launch-site operations, readiness reviews, or early-orbit commissioning.
• Proficiency with Tableau, Confluence, Jira, DOORS, Python, MATLAB, or similar analytical tools.
