Clinical Psychologist (Mental Health)

Location: Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in the Metro-Boston area, Massachusetts; on-site day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Annual compensation: $95,000–$125,000 commensurate with experience and internal equity.

What you will do

• Serve as a staff psychologist for one or more secure inpatient mental health units within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy focused on recovery, insight, motivation, and adaptive behavior.
• Conduct admission and interval psychological assessments, risk screenings, cognitive screeners, and psycho-diagnostic evaluations.
• Administer, score, and interpret psychological, educational, and neuropsychological tests to support diagnosis and treatment.
• Participate in individualized treatment planning and consult with clinical and hospital staff on psychological issues.
• Provide training, supervision, and education to psychology staff, postdoctoral staff, interns, practicum students, and interdisciplinary trainees when assigned.

Requirements

• Current and valid registration as a Psychologist by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Psychology, or willingness to accept a postdoctoral candidate who obtains licensure within one year of hire.
• Extensive knowledge of individual psychotherapy, clinical psychology, and social psychology.
• Proficiency in behavior chain analysis, Positive Behavior Support, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, reinforcement techniques, and behavioral management.
• Ability to make timely decisions, remain calm during emergencies, and communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and applicable state and federal patient privacy and confidentiality laws.
• On-site availability in the Metro-Boston area is required for the Monday–Friday hospital schedule.

Nice to have

• Inpatient experience delivering recovery-oriented, person-centered psychology services and risk assessments to people with mental illness.
• Experience with forensic evaluations and interest in working with court-committed inpatients.
• Experience in crisis intervention and treatment of serious mental illness and acute substance abuse.
• Bilingual or multilingual fluency.
