Relief Valve Technical Authority (Mechanical Integrity)

Location: League City, Texas; hybrid

Salary: $161,100–$200,365 annually, commensurate with experience.

What you will do

• Serve as the enterprise technical authority for more than 4,000 pressure relief devices across multiple manufacturing sites and the pipeline business.
• Define and govern standards for relief device design, sizing, selection, inspection, testing, set pressure determination, and lifecycle management.
• Maintain the enterprise relief valve database and improve data integrity, accessibility, and integration with mechanical integrity platforms.
• Provide functional leadership, coaching, and technical calibration for site-based relief valve engineers and process safety personnel.
• Oversee repair-shop quality, vendor performance, testing accuracy, repair traceability, turnarounds, and capital project support.
• Lead program assurance, KPI development, failure investigations, continuous improvement, and alignment with regulatory and industry standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
• At least 15 years of experience in pressure relief systems engineering, mechanical integrity, or related disciplines in refining, petrochemical, or large-scale process industries.
• Deep expertise in pressure relief device design, sizing, selection, operating principles, failure modes, inspection, testing, and program management.
• Strong knowledge of API 520, API 521, API 576, ASME Sections VIII and XIII, applicable RAGAGEP, and OSHA 1910.119 PSM requirements.
• Experience with Salus or a similar relief device management system and demonstrated ability to maintain high-quality technical data.
• Ability to connect relief systems with PHA/LOPA outcomes, SIL verification, overpressure scenario analysis, disposal system design, and mechanical integrity programs.

Nice to have

• Advanced engineering degree or additional pressure relief engineering certifications and training.
• Familiarity with PCMS or other enterprise mechanical integrity platforms.
• Active participation in API committees or other external industry forums.
