Technical Claims Director- Specialty

Location: Primarily hybrid with in-office attendance at least two days per week for candidates near an office; qualified remote candidates will also be considered. The position can be based in Boston, Chicago, Manhattan, or West Hartford.

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 annually, plus a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Provide coverage and liability expertise and oversight for large and complex Specialty claims across Allied Healthcare, Professional Liability, Cyber, Crime, and Media and Technology.
• Develop and implement complex claim resolution strategies across the full life of a claim, including reserving and reserve behavior.
• Identify coverage issues, develop coverage strategies, direct coverage counsel, and oversee coverage litigation.
• Drive technical excellence through mentoring, education, training, technical guidelines, and governance.
• Partner with Claims leadership, Underwriting, Actuary, Legal, and Risk Control on litigation developments, coverage trends, reserve movements, and loss mitigation.
• Manage the claims Watchlist and participate in reserve and trial roundtables.

Requirements

• 7+ years of insurance and/or law firm practice or litigation experience.
• Experience handling complex or high-severity claims is required.
• Deep technical expertise across Specialty claims.
• Strong knowledge of insurance coverage, coverage litigation, and collaboration with coverage counsel.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across all organizational levels.
• JD degree strongly preferred; 3+ years of claims or law firm leadership experience preferred.
