Senior Claims Examiner, Lawyers and Financial Advisors Professional Liability

Location: Chicago, IL; hybrid work arrangement. US work authorization required. Visa sponsorship is not available. Travel may be required as necessary, approximately 10%.

Salary: $78,000–$134,090 annual base salary, with potential eligibility for the annual incentive plan.

What you will do

• Investigate, analyze, negotiate, and settle complex primary and excess professional liability claims involving lawyers, accountants, and financial advisors.
• Determine coverage, draft coverage correspondence, communicate positions to stakeholders, and manage coverage litigation.
• Manage nationwide litigation against insureds, including appointing and directing defense counsel and driving economical resolutions.
• Set loss and expense reserves, evaluate settlement values, and mitigate indemnity and defense-cost exposure.
• Coordinate with underwriting, claims management, vendors, collections, and legal teams on significant developments and operational issues.
• Support claims examiner training, technical referrals, agent meetings, and division-wide initiatives.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional liability claims or litigation experience preferred.
• College degree and/or professional designation required; JD preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to summarize complex issues and develop action plans.
• Experience with contractual obligations, insurance coverage analysis, investigations, complex litigation, reserves, and settlement evaluation.
• Ability to proactively manage a caseload and collaborate across the Claims Unit and Professional Liability Division.

• Excess liability claims or litigation experience, including quota share, first-layer, or high-layer claims.
• Insurance coverage litigation experience.
