Staff Mechanical Engineer (Electronics Packaging)

Location: Syracuse, New York, United States. The role is associated with product design and manufacturing activities and requires U.S. citizenship; work may involve projects requiring a U.S. Department of Defense Secret clearance.

Salary: $101,361–$178,255 annually. An annual or quarterly company bonus may apply, and alternative shifts may include a shift premium.

What you will do

• Perform mechanical engineering functions for current and next-generation products used in commercial, defense, and space applications.
• Evaluate design trade-offs, perform FEA, and conduct thermal, structural, environmental, and vibration analyses.
• Develop advanced mechanical design concepts, analyze customer requirements, and ensure specification compliance.
• Prepare and participate in internal and customer product design reviews, including technical recommendations, statements of work, and project estimates.
• Develop qualification plans and perform testing to validate new designs, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to engineers, designers, and drafting personnel while collaborating with project, process, and design engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design for electronics development and manufacturing.
• Advanced 3D modeling, FEA, thermal, structural, and vibration analysis skills; experience with ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar tools.
• Experience with electronic packaging, materials and processes, GD&T, design experiments, and structured problem solving.
• Ability to lead projects, manage multiple priorities, make technical decisions, and work cross-functionally with customers and engineering teams.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for a potential U.S. Department of Defense Secret clearance; export-controlled work is restricted under applicable ITAR and related policies.

Nice to have

• Technical supervisory experience.
• Familiarity with MATLAB, Mathcad, LabVIEW, and general-purpose engineering tools.
