TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Military Power Systems): Developing mechanically sound, verified, and compliant power conversion products for military applications with an accent on experimental testing, simulation, materials, thermal management, and manufacturing processes. Focus on leading mechanical design through PDR and CDR milestones, creating production-ready drawings, validating prototypes, and solving high-power energy conversion and shock/vibration challenges.

Location: Dynapower, South Burlington, Vermont, United States; full-time onsite role

Base salary: $104,560–$156,840 USD annually

What you will do

  • Develop mechanically sound, verified, and compliant power conversion products for military applications.
  • Lead mechanical design activities within cross-functional new product development teams.
  • Maintain product documentation, including mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Work with customers to define product requirements, schedules, and budgets.
  • Support prototype builds, production validation, manufacturing operations, and supplier collaboration.
  • Research corrosion and characterize welding, materials, thermal behavior, mechanics, and fluid systems.

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Experience developing products for the U.S. Department of Defense; NAVSEA shipboard product experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review processes under MIL-917E.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering, materials, mechanics, fluid systems, thermodynamics, heat transfer, electrical circuits, statistical methods, process control, and product testing.
  • Experience with manufacturing methods including welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, machining, stamping, molding, forming, and assembly.
  • Must be eligible to obtain authorization under ITAR and/or EAR; non-U.S. persons may not be eligible.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SolidWorks, EPDM, FEA, CFD, thermal analysis, and mechanical shock or vibration analysis.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drafting standards, GD&T under ASME Y14.5, tolerance analysis, and production-ready drawings.
  • Understanding of creepage and clearance requirements for medium-voltage products.
  • Experience with high-power energy conversion systems, power electronics packaging, or military power systems.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to engineers, technicians, suppliers, and external partners.
