Corrosion and Materials Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: League City, Texas; hybrid work arrangement

Salary: $161,100–$200,365 annually, commensurate with experience.

INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA operates a large manufacturing business focused on olefins, polymers, and related industrial assets.

What you will do

• Act as the enterprise technical authority for metallurgy, materials selection, corrosion control, damage mechanisms, and welding across pressure vessels, piping, storage tanks, and critical equipment.
• Lead CUI inspection and mitigation programs, including risk-based prioritization, coatings, insulation systems, weatherproofing, and performance tracking across sites.
• Conduct damage mechanism reviews and develop corrosion control documents for hydrocarbon and polymer-processing environments.
• Develop, approve, and qualify welding procedures and repair practices; review contractor WPS/PQR documentation and support critical field repairs.
• Provide materials, welding, and corrosion expertise for turnarounds, capital projects, Management of Change, failure investigations, and fitness-for-service evaluations.
• Coach site engineering, inspection, maintenance, reliability, and welding personnel while driving consistent enterprise standards and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; an advanced degree is preferred.
• 15–20 years of welding, materials, or corrosion engineering experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical, or heavy industrial environments.
• Certified or highly proficient in API 510, API 570, API 579, API 582, and ASME Section IX, with broader knowledge of applicable API codes and standards.
• Experience developing or qualifying welding procedures, reviewing WPS/PQR documents, supporting field repairs, and evaluating weld quality.
• Strong knowledge of CUI, high-temperature sulfidation, chloride stress corrosion cracking, hydrogen attack, amine cracking, coatings, insulation systems, and cathodic protection.
• Experience with damage mechanism reviews, corrosion control documents, fitness-for-service assessments, failure analysis, root cause investigations, inspection data interpretation, and OSHA 1910.119 Mechanical Integrity requirements.

• Advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Active participation in API committees or NACE/AMPP corrosion groups.
• Experience driving policy adoption and technical standardization across a large, diverse manufacturing organization.
