Director of Credit & Underwriting (Commercial Real Estate)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, US — in-office

Salary: $200,000–$300,000 annual

A rapidly growing private real estate credit platform providing bridge financing for transitional commercial real estate nationwide, including multifamily, mixed-use, retail, industrial, and specialty assets.

What you will do

• Lead underwriting activities across the bridge loan platform and review loans before management presentation.
• Manage and mentor underwriting and analyst staff while establishing and improving credit policies and procedures.
• Own transactions from borrower intake through funding, including financial analysis, sponsor analysis, property underwriting, cash flow modeling, and loan structuring.
• Prepare investment memoranda, coordinate third-party reports, manage lender due diligence, and present transactions to banks, insurers, credit funds, and institutional investors.
• Monitor the existing loan portfolio, construction draws, covenant compliance, and emerging credit issues.
• Recommend risk mitigation strategies and maintain quality across credit memoranda.

Requirements

• 7–15+ years of commercial real estate lending experience, including significant bridge lending experience.
• Experience underwriting bridge loans, construction loans, or transitional assets; multifamily experience is required.
• Experience managing analysts and underwriting teams.
• Advanced Excel financial modeling and a strong understanding of institutional credit standards.
• Knowledge of loan sizing, DSCR, debt yield, LTV/LTC, sponsor analysis, construction lending, business plans, and market analysis.
• Experience reviewing appraisals, environmental and engineering reports, title documents, surveys, and organizational documents.
