Sync Engineer (Power Generation)

Location: Walkden, United Kingdom; on-site and mobile engineering work with regional travel, customer sites, and occasional overnight stays.

What you will do

• Commission and configure generator synchronization, load-sharing, power management, and associated control systems.
• Test generator sets operating in parallel with mains supplies and other generation assets, including FAT, SAT, and final commissioning.
• Configure and fault-find PLCs, protection relays, communication networks, switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and generator systems.
• Verify protection settings for overcurrent, reverse power, frequency, voltage, and mains protection functions.
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and control-system faults; perform planned preventative maintenance and system health checks.
• Prepare commissioning reports and technical documentation, coordinate with DNOs, ICPs, customers, contractors, and project stakeholders, and provide call-out support when required.

Requirements

• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Installation.
• Full UK Driving Licence required.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations required.
• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including engines and alternators; generator experience is desirable.
• Ability to work safely on-site, complete risk assessments, and participate in overtime, weekend shifts, occasional overnight stays, and an on-call rota.
• Strong face-to-face and telephone communication skills, with the ability to work with customers in a fast-paced environment.
