Multiskilled Maintenance Technician (Electrical/Mechanical)

Location: Hitchin, UK; onsite, full-time plant-based role.

What you will do

• Troubleshoot, repair, test, and maintain electrical systems, including motors, controls, PLC-driven equipment, HMI displays, CNC machinery, drives, sensors, instrumentation, robotics, and integrated hydraulic and servo systems.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance, planned inspections, routine testing, lubrication, alignment, adjustment, and component replacement.
• Maintain mechanical equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, bearings, valves, conveyors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and mechanical assemblies.
• Support the installation, testing, commissioning, overhaul, and improvement of new and existing equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns, diagnose root causes, implement corrective actions, and work with operations, engineering, and production teams to minimise downtime.
• Maintain records, support spare-parts management, risk assessments, permit-to-work processes, contractor compliance, accident investigations, Kaizen, 5S, lean practices, and Total Productive Maintenance.

Requirements

• NVQ Level 3, ONC, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Time-served Electrician with strong hands-on electrical fault-finding, testing, and industrial maintenance experience.
• BS 7671 18th Edition wiring regulations and City & Guilds 2391 inspection and testing certificates.
• Working knowledge of PLC-controlled machinery, mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and general mechanical practices.
• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical safety standards, Total Preventive Maintenance, and applicable statutory requirements.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced plant environment, with flexibility for overtime and changing duties.
