TL;DR
Mechanical Service Technician (Wind Energy): Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and reporting on wind turbines across regional and UK sites with an accent on electrical maintenance, component retrofits, and high-voltage switching. Focus on climbing turbines, diagnosing faults, completing safety documentation, and supporting field teams during extended travel.

Location: Ayrshire, United Kingdom; onsite. The role involves travel to wind turbine sites across the UK, Germany, and potentially elsewhere in Europe, including stays of up to 2–3 weeks away from home.

What you will do

  • Install, retrofit, maintain, and service electrical and mechanical components on wind turbines.
  • Diagnose faults, report issues, and complete scheduled maintenance efficiently and on time.
  • Climb wind turbines regularly and perform work at height while following safety procedures.
  • Complete weekly and monthly paper and digital reports, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Manage van stock, materials, tools, and replenishment of critical stock boxes.
  • Support high-voltage work, including 35 kV switching, once appropriately qualified.

Requirements

  • Minimum Level 3 NVQ/SVQ qualification in electrical engineering or engineering.
  • Completed time-served apprenticeship and previous commercial electrical or engineering experience.
  • Ability to work at height and maintain physical fitness for regular turbine climbing.
  • Full, clean driving licence and proficiency with IT packages, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Proactive, communicative, organised, and effective in a team environment.
  • Successful completion of mandatory training in turbine safety, electrical systems, and high-voltage switching.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in a similar role within the wind energy sector.

  • Working hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with weekend on-call cover on a rota basis.
