Safety Engineer (Petrochemical)

Location: Underwood Dr, Pasadena, Texas, United States; full-time, plant-based position with field inspections, emergency response, and work in industrial environments.

What you will do

• Lead site-wide safety, health, security, emergency response, and regulatory compliance programs.
• Develop and maintain safety procedures, contractor safety programs, training, audits, and SHE performance metrics.
• Support process safety activities including PHAs, Management of Change, risk assessments, design safety reviews, PSSR, and incident investigations.
• Plan and execute industrial hygiene monitoring for chemical exposure, ergonomics, lighting, noise, silica, lead, asbestos, mold, PPE, and breathing-air programs.
• Maintain emergency preparedness plans, fire protection systems, surveillance equipment, muster systems, and severe-weather response programs.
• Coordinate SHE plans, contractors, training, KPIs, and safe execution for turnarounds, outages, capital projects, and asset maintenance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
• 6+ years of direct experience in the petrochemical industry and experience in a site safety role.
• Experience as an Emergency Response Team member and TEEX Certified Safety Officer.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards, petrochemical safety, basic Process Safety Management, safety and environmental management systems, and workplace health and safety procedures.
• Experience with maintenance, outages, projects, turnarounds, emergency preparedness, incident investigations, and contractor coordination.
• Ability to inspect industrial work areas, work at heights and in confined spaces, respond to emergencies, and use appropriate PPE including SCBA when required.

Nice to have

• Experience as a firefighter, HAZMAT technician, or rescue technician.
• Experience with live firefighting, high-angle rescue, medical response, and advanced HAZMAT techniques.
• Membership or involvement in AIHA or ASSP.
