Safety Engineer (Petrochemical)

What you will do

• Act as the plant-wide expert on occupational, process, and fire safety, supporting routine and non-routine manufacturing activities.
• Develop and implement contractor safety programs, work permits, job safety analyses, and other safety systems.
• Lead or support risk assessments, compliance audits, incident investigations, management of change, and pre-startup safety reviews.
• Manage OSHA Voluntary Protection Program, insurance, process safety management, operational, and other site audits.
• Lead the Emergency Response Team and maintain emergency preparedness for fire, rescue, security, medical, hazardous materials, and severe weather events.
• Oversee emergency response equipment, fire protection engineering reviews, security procedures, technicians, and contract security performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, health and safety, or another relevant technical discipline.
• At least 6 years of direct company experience in Occupational Safety and Health.
• Experience as a firefighter, HAZMAT technician, and rescue technician.
• Knowledge of petrochemical safety, manufacturing operations, emergency preparedness planning, and health and safety procedures.
• Advanced knowledge of firefighting, rescue, medical, and HAZMAT response techniques and fire protection systems such as deluge and fire detection.
• Leadership, teamwork, initiative, problem-solving, sound judgment, stress tolerance, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Board-certified safety professional credential, preferably ASP.
• Fire Service Instructor experience.
• Project management experience and familiarity with safety and environmental management systems.
