Accounts Payable Manager (AI)

Location: Charlotte, NC, United States; primarily office-based. Travel is limited and based on project needs.

Salary: $90,000–$110,000 per year, with final compensation based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end accounts payable operations, including invoice intake, coding, validation, approvals, payments, reimbursements, credits, and vendor reconciliations.
• Implement and continuously improve invoice workflow automation, approval routing, exception handling, payment readiness, and workflow analytics.
• Use AI-enabled AP capabilities for data extraction, coding support, duplicate detection, exception prioritization, and processing efficiency while maintaining human oversight.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities through cutoff reviews, accruals, open-invoice analysis, subledger reconciliations, and reporting.
• Lead, train, and develop AP staff while managing vendor relationships, payment issues, disputes, and escalations.
• Maintain AP policies, procedures, control evidence, audit documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
• At least five years of progressive accounts payable experience, including supervisory or people-leadership responsibility.
• Experience managing invoice processing, approval workflows, payments, vendor reconciliations, and period-end close support.
• Experience implementing or materially improving AP workflow automation and using AI-enabled AP tools.
• Strong knowledge of AP governance, approval controls, segregation of duties, audit trails, accruals, cutoff procedures, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting controls.
• Experience with ERP, AP automation, invoice workflow, and financial reporting systems, plus strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting system implementations or process transformation.
• Background in utility services, utility infrastructure, construction, engineering, industrial services, or other complex project-based businesses.
