Furnace Engineer (Petrochemical)

Location: Chocolate Bayou Works in Alvin, Texas, United States

Salary: $104,900–$178,570 annually, commensurate with experience.

INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA produces olefins and polyolefins, including butadiene, ethylene, polypropylene, and high-density polyethylene, across manufacturing sites in North America.

What you will do

• Serve as the technical authority for ethylene cracking furnace technology and maintain design bases, technical standards, operating guidelines, and engineering practices.
• Optimize furnace yield, conversion, selectivity, capacity, feed flexibility, fuel efficiency, steam usage, decoking, and operating strategy.
• Support tube life management and investigate failures, coke formation, burner and refractory issues, transfer line exchanger failures, flame instability, and process upsets.
• Provide technical leadership for process safety activities, including PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, MOC, incident investigations, safeguards, trips, and safe operating limits.
• Support operations during startups, shutdowns, trips, decokes, feed changes, emergency events, and capacity constraints while developing operator guidance and training.
• Develop furnace capital projects and long-term replacement, revamp, modernization, emissions-reduction, and decarbonization strategies through design, commissioning, and startup.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering required or strongly preferred; Mechanical Engineering or a related degree may be considered with significant relevant experience.
• At least 4 years of experience in petrochemical, refining, fired equipment, or process engineering.
• Experience with ethylene plant operations, olefins technology, furnace optimization, or capital project development is preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with Operations, Production Engineering, Process Control, Reliability, licensors, OEMs, EPC contractors, and inspection specialists.
• Work on site at Chocolate Bayou Works in Alvin, Texas.
