TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer Principal (Power Generation): Defining mechanical design bases and supporting engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning for gas, coal, and renewable power-generation projects with an accent on combined-cycle equipment, turbomachinery, HRSGs, steam systems, and balance-of-plant integration. Focus on reviewing complex mechanical designs, validating piping and rotating-equipment performance, coordinating with AE, EPC, and OEM organizations, and solving construction and commissioning challenges.

Location: Columbus, Ohio, United States; on-site. Approximately 25% travel is required, including day trips and overnight stays of up to a week or more. Work takes place indoors and outdoors at generating stations with exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, fumes, and operating machinery.

Base salary: $117,000–$151,000 per year. The stated compensation range is $116,255–$151,132.50 per year.

Company

hirify.global delivers safe, reliable energy through gas, coal, renewable, retrofit, and new-generation power projects.

What you will do

  • Develop mechanical design bases and requirements for turbines, generators, HRSGs and boilers, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, cooling systems, piping, structures, and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of simple- and combined-cycle gas turbine plants to equipment selection, system integration, and performance evaluation.
  • Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, calculations, technical specifications, procurement documents, and RFx deliverables from AE, EPC, and OEM partners.
  • Evaluate vendors and bids, confirming technical compliance, lead times, warranties, turbine and HRSG interfaces, and steam-cycle integration.
  • Support construction, commissioning, startup, site inspections, punch-list resolution, troubleshooting, lifecycle support, and O&M documentation.
  • Coordinate with electrical, instrumentation and controls, civil, and operations stakeholders while leading reliability, FMEA, RCM, and obsolescence-mitigation activities.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program, or at least 6 years with a Master's or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Energy Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Advanced hands-on knowledge of natural-gas simple- and combined-cycle plants, including combustion turbines, HRSGs, steam turbines, auxiliary systems, and plant integration.
  • Experience with rotating equipment, pressure systems, piping, pumps, valves, structural and mechanical design, vendor drawings, technical specifications, and RFx responses.
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery performance, rotor dynamics, vibration, alignment, balancing, piping stress, pipe supports, expansion management, and mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in a U.S. state or Puerto Rico is preferred. Compliance with applicable ASME, API, ANSI, NFPA, IEEE, and local codes is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with FEA and CFD tools, CAD, and engineering calculation software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, MATLAB, SolidWorks, PDMS, or AVEVA.
  • Familiarity with welding, NDT, metallurgy, fabrication processes, maintenance strategies, lifecycle cost analysis, and equipment-health data analysis.
  • Experience with construction management, commissioning, and startup for utility-scale generation projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Access, Excel, Word, SQL, SharePoint, or Visual Basic.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with short- and long-term discretionary incentives.
  • 401(k), pension, health insurance, vacation, and educational assistance.
