Lead Engineer - P&C Projects (Power System Protection)

Location: Rochester, New York, United States. Office-based role with attendance required five days per week.

Base salary: $116,000–$145,000 annually, plus up to a 16% bonus.

What you will do

• Lead the Protection and Control scope for greenfield and brownfield substation projects.
• Develop relay one-line diagrams, integration and communication diagrams, System Protection Requirements documents, detailed design RFPs, and bills of material.
• Review and approve external engineering designs, materials lists, and project documentation for compliance with applicable company, local, state, and national standards.
• Guide protection system settings, testing, commissioning, networking, automation, construction standards, and supplier or contractor requirements.
• Oversee engineering studies, equipment evaluations, technology demonstrations, and analyses of protection system performance.
• Analyze transmission fault events and prepare reports describing corrective actions and lessons learned.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 7 years of technical experience in protection engineering or a related field.
• Expert knowledge of power system protection engineering, design practices, regulatory requirements, and national and international standards.
• Experience with engineering analysis, modeling, calculations, construction, field applications, and technical documentation.
• Ability to review and approve engineering work performed by external teams for compliance with standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory and compliance requirements. A professional engineering license and master’s degree are preferred.
