Medical Coding Auditor (Outpatient) (Healthcare)

Location: Remote nationwide within the United States; occasional travel to hirify.global offices for training or meetings may be required. Workdays start between 6AM and 9AM EST.

Salary: $59,300–$80,900 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Extract clinical information from medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes.
• Audit outpatient medical records and claims for coding accuracy and compliance.
• Interpret NCDs, LCDs, the CMS Manual, NCCI Edits, and outpatient coding guidelines.
• Exercise independent judgment when determining appropriate coding actions and handling information.
• Manage multiple priorities and workload in a production-based, metric-driven environment.

Requirements

• Hold CPC, COC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT certification with at least three years of post-certification experience.
• Have at least two years of outpatient medical record auditing experience.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of outpatient coding conventions, standards, NCDs, LCDs, CMS guidance, and NCCI Edits.
• Work independently, apply sound judgment, manage priorities, and maintain strong attention to detail.
• Have strong written, verbal, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice to have

• Five or more years of prior coding experience and at least three years of claims interpretation experience.
• Outpatient facility auditing, appeals or disputes auditing, and financial recovery experience.
• Experience with 3M Coder, CRM/SRO, Pareo, or MOAT.
• Advanced or specialty coding certifications.
