Coder - Outpatient

Location: Remote work from Pennsylvania, United States

What you will do

• Review medical records, physician treatment plans, clinical courses, and outcomes.
• Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstract medical and demographic data for hospital, health system, and medical staff statistical requests.
• Enter coded and abstracted information into designated systems.
• Manage medical information related to unbilled coding reports and support efficient cash flow.
• Stay current with ICD-10-CM and CPT guideline updates through training and coding resources.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• At least one year of hospital and/or physician coding experience.
• At least one year of coding experience at mid-level facilities or clinics, including major surgeries, observations, and/or E/M coding.
• Strong data-entry skills, knowledge of computer applications, and the ability to work with healthcare team members.
• One or more relevant credentials, such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CPC-A.

Nice to have

• Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field.
