TL;DR
HCC / Risk Adjustment Medical Coder (Medical Coding): Reviewing and coding medical records and encounters for risk adjustment and HCC programs with an accent on ICD-10-CM, CMS-HCC guidelines, coding accuracy, and compliance. Focus on resolving documentation discrepancies, supporting audits, protecting patient confidentiality under HIPAA, and improving coding processes.
Location: Remote, United States; availability required between 6 AM and 6 PM EST.
Pay: $22/hour. Minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday; preference for candidates available for 40 hours per week.

What you will do
- Review and accurately code medical records and encounters for diagnoses and procedures under Risk Adjustment and HCC guidelines.
- Apply ICD-10-CM, CMS-HCC, and related coding rules while validating the completeness and integrity of coded data.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies between clinical documentation and diagnosis coding.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and medical professionals to clarify documentation and coding queries.
- Prepare coding reports and support internal and external audits.
- Participate in coding education and identify opportunities to improve coding accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements
- At least one to two years of experience in Risk Adjustment and HCC coding in a healthcare setting.
- CPC or CCS certification from AHIMA or AAPC is required; CPC-A certification is not accepted.
- Knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and CMS-HCC risk adjustment methodology.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems and coding software.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, communication skills, and ability to work independently.
- Understanding of HIPAA, compliance, and patient confidentiality requirements.
Nice to have
- CRC certification or other higher-level coding certification.
