Senior Software Architect (Browser Extension Platform)

Location: Remote, US. A hybrid schedule is available for candidates based in the Chicago, IL or El Dorado Hills, CA metro areas.

What you will do

• Define the technical architecture and long-term direction of the browser extension platform.
• Design complex browser-based features, shared services and cross-platform capabilities for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and other supported environments.
• Establish secure communication patterns between extension components, web applications, backend services and native integrations.
• Address performance, memory, reliability and scalability challenges, and lead migration and modernization initiatives.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Security, QA and UX on technical designs, threat modeling, architecture reviews and standards.
• Mentor senior engineers and use AI-assisted tools for research, prototyping, debugging, code analysis and documentation.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with full-stack expertise across databases, backend services, APIs, infrastructure and modern user interfaces.
• Experience designing and delivering complex systems from concept through production, including highly available and scalable architectures.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, object-oriented design patterns, distributed systems, microservices, serverless and event-driven design.
• Experience with AWS, Lambda, Docker, Kubernetes, database architecture, data modeling, CI/CD, automated testing and release engineering.
• Experience designing secure authentication, authorization and identity architectures, including IAM, CIEM and least-privilege access.
• Ability to lead architecture discussions, make tradeoffs across security, performance, scalability and reliability, troubleshoot across application layers, and mentor senior engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with browser applications, browser extensions or client-side platform architecture.
• Experience with enterprise security platforms, high-scale SaaS, zero-trust architectures and security frameworks such as ISO 27001, SOC 2 or GDPR.
• Familiarity with WCAG, Google Analytics 4, Databricks, machine learning or AI-enabled products.
• Experience integrating native applications, desktop software or endpoint components with browser or web platforms.
