Staff AI Architect (AWS)

Location: United States; hybrid work arrangement

Base salary: $115,747–$208,344 per year, plus variable pay opportunity and benefits

What you will do

• Shape the architectural vision for cloud-native applications and platform infrastructure on AWS.
• Define agentic AI patterns covering multi-agent systems, tool orchestration, memory, retrieval, LLM routing, guardrails, and feedback loops.
• Establish DevOps standards for CI/CD, GitOps, deployment strategies, environment parity, and release engineering.
• Oversee EKS, ECS, service mesh, API gateways, secrets management, IAM/RBAC, data stores, and multi-account, multi-region AWS topologies.
• Lead architecture reviews, make technical decisions, and define SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, observability, capacity planning, and incident response practices.
• Create architecture documentation and mentor staff and senior engineers on systems design and architectural leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, systems engineering, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of software engineering and systems architecture experience, including 3+ years in an architect or principal engineer role.
• 5+ years of AWS architecture experience at scale, including multi-account design, landing zones, VPCs, IAM governance, and cost optimization.
• Experience designing highly available, low-latency, elastically scalable distributed systems and agentic AI architectures.
• Expertise with Kubernetes/EKS, Terraform or CDK, Helm, GitOps tools, CI/CD platforms, container security, API gateways, and event-driven services.
• Experience with SRE, cloud security, data architecture, streaming pipelines, caching, architecture diagrams, threat models, ADRs, and runbooks.
