Supervisor - Substation Operations (IEC 61850)

Location: Clifton Park and Mechanicville, New York, United States. Work Type: Office.

Salary: $106,000–$132,500 annually, plus up to 16% bonus.

What you will do

• Supervise, schedule, assign, and support Substation Operations personnel, contractors, and department budgets.
• Coordinate substation construction, modification, maintenance, capital, automation, and distribution SCADA projects.
• Direct the safe operation of transmission and distribution substations, including switching and tagging coordination.
• Oversee protective devices, control circuits, supervisory equipment, testing, training, and equipment documentation.
• Implement preventive maintenance and reliability programs supporting NERC/NPCC and Public Service Commission requirements.
• Coordinate storm response, system emergencies, outage requests, incident investigations, and after-hours operational support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience preferred; or associate degree and 7 years of relevant experience; or high school/GED, completion of the relevant progression program, and 10 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of electrical or mechanical technology, electric substations, power systems, distribution equipment, control circuits, protection devices, electronics, meters, instruments, and switching and tagging.
• Strong supervisory, resource management, project management, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills.
• Experience with WMS, CMS, OMS, SAP, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
• Must be available outside regular working hours for storms, system emergencies, and critical assignments, including rotating weekly duty where required.
• Applicants must meet applicable United States immigration requirements to work legally in the country.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of facility systems, electrical and HVAC systems, energy management, and control systems.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850 and other electric utility technology advancements.
• Experience with substation automation, technical support, equipment troubleshooting, and apprentice training.
