Senior Substation Technical Specialist (Power)

Location: Irvine or Riverside, California, United States

Salary: $125,000–$178,000 per year, depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.

What you will do

• Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical substations.
• Develop one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA schemes, communications plans, and substation physical layouts.
• Design and calculate material lists, conduit and cable sizing and routing, AC and DC systems, and substation grounding.
• Prepare design sketches and redline drawings in coordination with Electrical CAD Drafters and Designers.
• Review CAD work and coordinate assigned project designs with other engineering disciplines.
• Apply engineering judgment to evaluate, select, and modify electrical engineering techniques and procedures.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• At least 15 years of engineering experience in the supported discipline.
• Extensive knowledge of relevant industry standards, national design standards, safety codes, and project specifications.
• Hands-on experience with discipline-specific computer applications and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary environments with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to active participation in an employee-owned culture.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a power emphasis.
• Experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• 10+ years of experience designing electrical lighting, power, and systems for power utility projects.
• Experience or interest in sustainable design and LEED.
