Staff Civil-Structural Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Columbia, South Carolina, United States; occasional travel to nuclear plant sites is required.

What you will do

• Perform structural analysis for steel and concrete systems, including seismic analysis, shielding, and anchoring systems.
• Prepare and review drawings, specifications, technical reports, calculation notes, design reviews, and change-control documents.
• Coordinate technical solutions with field crews, design engineers, quality assurance, subcontractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot field issues and provide technical justifications for design changes during fabrication, assembly, and construction.
• Conduct site walkdowns to inspect, verify, and approve installations.
• Review engineering work completed by others and take technical responsibility for assigned projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 8+ years of engineering experience, including construction experience.
• Experience with structural analysis software such as STAAD.Pro, GT STRUDL, or ANSYS.
• Experience with CAD and engineering modeling tools such as AutoCAD and Tekla.
• Knowledge of steel fabrication, design-for-fabrication methods, and installation support for major steel structures.
• Ability to travel occasionally to plant sites and comply with applicable nuclear safety regulations, codes, and standards.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license and standard design qualifications.
• Nuclear industry experience.
• Experience applying data analytics or machine learning to field inspection data, site walkdown findings, or construction quality metrics.
• Experience using AI- or ML-augmented structural analysis tools for seismic analysis, load-path optimization, and design iterations.
