Writer & Editor (AI)

Location: In person in the San Francisco Bay Area, United States; relocation is possible, and remote applicants are not considered. The media team will work together on-site for at least the first six months.

Salary: $150,000–$180,000 USD annual salary, with higher compensation possible for exceptional candidates.

What you will do

• Edit drafts from researchers and the media team into clear, engaging pieces for a general audience.
• Write first drafts based on team outlines and ideas.
• Pitch and discuss article ideas with researchers and the media team.
• Set and uphold editorial standards across the media program.
• Help establish a consistent publishing rhythm, starting at least one piece per week.
• Contribute to the editorial direction of the founding media team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of editing experience at a major publication, such as legacy news media.
• Excellent original writing demonstrated through published work for a general audience.
• Experience editing work from many different writers and improving copy quickly.
• Ability to explain technical material clearly without oversimplifying it.
• Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate, with the ability to work on-site.
• Professional-level English proficiency; application materials must be submitted in English.

Nice to have

• Experience covering AI, science, economics, finance, or other technical beats.
• Familiarity with the AI ecosystem.
