Senior Director, Editorial, AD&D

Location: Remote within the USA; employees near hirify.global offices may choose fully remote or hybrid work with Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the office. Occasional business travel is required, approximately 1–3 times per year.

Salary: $96,000–$155,000 per year, adjusted based on location, experience, qualifications, and market data.

What you will do

• Set the editorial team’s strategic direction, priorities, quality benchmarks, success metrics, and operating procedures.
• Lead, coach, mentor, and manage five experienced editors and graphic/layout staff through feedback, performance management, and career development.
• Oversee copyediting, proofreading, and fact-checking for SAT Suite, AP, ACCUPLACER, and other high-stakes assessment materials across digital and print formats.
• Manage workload calendars, project timelines, resources, dependencies, and cross-divisional coordination.
• Lead long-term planning, evidence-based experiments, special projects, and major initiatives that improve editorial quality and operational effectiveness.
• Champion editorial standards, documentation, workflow improvements, new technologies, and AI-enabled solutions across assessment development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 10 years of copyediting, proofreading, and fact-checking experience, preferably in educational publishing, assessment, or technical content.
• At least 3 years of people management experience, including coaching, performance management, and talent development.
• Deep expertise in grammar, usage, punctuation, syntax, publishing standards, and the Chicago Manual of Style.
• Experience establishing editorial standards and quality benchmarks, leading cross-divisional initiatives, and implementing scalable operational improvements.
• Authorization to work in the United States is required.
