Associate Actuary (Validation & Special Projects)

Location: Hybrid, with three days per week in the office at a hub location in Cedar Rapids, Baltimore, Philadelphia, or Denver. Occasional travel of less than 10% may be required. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Salary: $128,000–$165,000 annually, plus potential eligibility for a 15% annual bonus.

What you will do

• Develop modeling best practices, standards, and frameworks for AXIS actuarial models.
• Support US GAAP calculation implementation in Life, Health, and Annuity models.
• Baseline and review controls for US GAAP implementation in AXIS models.
• Partner with experience studies, business units, and risk teams to create testing plans for actuarial model changes.
• Complete replicating spreadsheets, annual unlocking reviews, and technical reviews.
• Lead special projects, including AI adoption, to improve model development and first-line validation workflows.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field, with five years of relevant experience; equivalent Master's degree paths are accepted.
• FSA or equivalent professional designation, or ASA or equivalent with eight years of relevant experience.
• Strong leadership, judgment, organization, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to communicate advanced mathematical and analytical concepts verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and within time constraints.
• Excellent computer skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, VBA, Alteryx, Python, or R.
