Instrument Person (Surveying)

Location: Houston, Texas, United States; outdoor field work with travel and possible relocation to domestic or foreign locations.

Salary: USD $15.00–$19.00 per hour, with possible participation in an annual discretionary bonus program.

What you will do

• Operate and maintain survey instrumentation while collecting angles, distances, field notes, and other survey data.
• Perform profile surveys, pipeline re-stakes, line locating, line clearing, loop line setup, and river or road crossings.
• Process survey data and support data translation for preliminary alignment maps and plats.
• Orient, assign, supervise, and coach survey personnel on project procedures, documentation, safety, and quality requirements.
• Monitor survey progress, schedules, budgets, documentation, and compliance with project requirements.
• Support the Survey Party Chief and assume leadership of the survey team during the chief’s absence.

Requirements

• At least two years of surveying experience, including previous Instrumentman experience.
• Knowledge of electronic data collection methods for cross-country pipeline surveying.
• Knowledge of survey instrumentation operating procedures and survey data collection techniques.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
• Ability to walk 2–10 miles per day while carrying supplies and equipment and to clear lines using field tools.
• Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests and be at least 18 years old.

Nice to have

• High school diploma or GED.
• GPS knowledge.
• ACSM Survey Technician Certificate.
• Experience with databases and engineering programs.
