Assistant Professor of Sociology

Location: San Antonio, Texas, United States; full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning in Fall 2027.

What you will do

• Teach the equivalent of 18 course credits per academic year in sociology research methods, statistics, and specialty areas.
• Develop a research program producing articles, books, grants, and other scholarly outputs.
• Integrate research into undergraduate teaching and contribute to Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences.
• Mentor students pursuing undergraduate research and support workforce preparation and career readiness.
• Provide service at the program, department, college, university, community, and professional levels.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in sociology; ABD candidates may be considered if the degree is completed by appointment.
• Outstanding research potential, demonstrated teaching excellence, and professional service.
• Prior teaching experience in a university setting.
• Ability to use or engage with quantitative research methods and teach research methods or statistics.
• Strong communication, independent work, collaboration, and student interaction skills.

Nice to have

• Experience teaching and mentoring students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions or working with majority-Latinx student populations.
• Strong interdisciplinary orientation and commitment to community engagement.
