Claim Counsel - Design Professional Claim

Location: Centennial, Colorado, United States

Annual base salary: $111,600–$184,200, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Investigate, analyze, evaluate, and resolve professional liability claims involving design professionals, including architects and engineers.
• Prepare management reports covering loss development, financial exposure, reserves, coverage issues, claim strategies, and recovery opportunities.
• Retain and actively manage outside counsel using litigation management plans and budgets.
• Interpret policies, analyze coverage, draft coverage opinions with case law, and negotiate settlements and resolutions.
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences, claim conferences, trials, depositions, and field office visits as required.
• Advise underwriting and claim colleagues, support broker and account visits, and conduct legal research on issues affecting underwriting and claim decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate degree.
• Licensed, registered, or authorized and in good standing to practice law in the jurisdiction where the role is performed.
• At least two years of relevant legal experience; five or more years of relevant legal or claim-handling experience is preferred for the ideal candidate.
• Strong verbal and written communication, negotiation, decision-making, conflict-resolution, and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, data, and analytics.
• Occasional travel is required.
