Lead Engineer - Protection & Control

Location: Rochester, NY; Lancaster, NY; or Binghamton, NY. Office-based, on-site work.

Salary: $116,640–$145,800, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Lead engineering design, estimating, analysis, settings, testing, and commissioning for electric transmission and substation protection systems.
• Develop and coordinate hirify.global’s system protection platform, including engineering criteria, standards, specifications, networking, automation, and commissioning requirements.
• Oversee engineering studies, evaluate equipment and protection system performance, and solve complex technical problems affecting reliability and operational efficiency.
• Guide transmission fault-event analysis, validate protection scheme operation, and prepare corrective-action and lessons-learned reports.
• Evaluate and implement advanced technologies that improve power-system safety, reliability, and efficiency.
• Lead technical development, mentoring, and training for the Protection Engineering group and represent the company on regional and national committees.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• At least 7 years of technical experience in protection engineering or a related field.
• Expert knowledge of power-system protection engineering, design, analysis, testing, commissioning, and compliance requirements.
• Experience reviewing and approving engineering work, interpreting technical documentation, and applying local, state, federal, and international standards.
• Ability to provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, collaborate across departments, and work independently with limited supervision.
• Ability to work on-site in Rochester, Lancaster, or Binghamton, New York.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a related field.
• Professional engineering license.
• Expertise in complex protection coordination analysis and power-engineering studies.
• Project management, budgeting, cost-estimating, and business-case development experience.
• Availability for occasional travel, after-hours project work, and on-call support.
