Sr Engineer - Relay and Protection Engineering

Location: Hybrid in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, United States

Annual salary: $103,200–$141,900, plus a 15% annual bonus for eligible positions.

What you will do

• Design protection schemes for substation equipment, including transformers, capacitor banks, buses, transmission lines, and distribution lines.
• Lead engineering assignments and complex projects with significant financial and operational impact.
• Perform field testing, troubleshooting, technical reviews, documentation, and commissioning planning.
• Provide technical training, mentorship, peer review, and guidance to other engineers.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, department initiatives, and industry working groups.
• Support extended-hour coverage during storms and other energy delivery emergencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a Professional Engineer license.
• 7+ years of professional engineering experience, with advanced expertise in a specialized engineering area.
• Knowledge of engineering design principles, applicable standards, codes, methods, and practices.
• Ability to analyze complex electrical and mechanical systems and resolve complex technical issues.
• Strong teamwork, interpersonal, written, oral communication, presentation, report generation, and technical writing skills.
• Hybrid work in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, is associated with the role.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree or graduate-level coursework in Engineering or Business Administration.
• Professional Engineer license, advanced technical degree, MBA, or Project Management Certification.
• At least three related career experiences or leadership in a recognized industry committee.
