Senior Database Administrator (MySQL)

Location: On-site in The Hague, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands

Salary: Up to €6,500 gross per month based on a 40-hour week, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Own production database performance across multiple MySQL clusters, including query optimization, indexing, and execution-plan reviews.
• Run database migrations using Atlas and ProxySQL.
• Develop scaling strategies involving sharding and partitioning as the infrastructure evolves.
• Define and maintain standards for data modeling, migrations, and database operations.
• Perform database maintenance, monitoring, mutations, and schema changes.
• Review merge requests and PHP code for database impact, and contribute to project kick-offs with Platform, Enablement, and development teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a database administrator or database engineer working with large or complex databases.
• Deep expertise in MySQL and solid experience with at least one other database management system.
• Strong PHP skills sufficient to review queries and application loops for database impact.
• Excellent written and spoken English is required for clear, unambiguous communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with Postgres, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience in fintech, HR tech, SaaS, or ticketing and ordering platforms.
• Relevant database certification.
