TL;DR
Director, Government Legislative Affairs (Healthcare Policy): Developing and executing state and federal legislative strategies for a health insurance organization with an accent on healthcare policy analysis, regulatory advocacy, and policymaker relationships. Focus on analyzing complex legislation, building coalitions, preparing testimony, and advising senior and C-suite leaders on policy impact.

Location: Boston; hybrid work arrangement

Salary: $198,360–$242,440 per year, plus eligible variable pay

What you will do

  • Develop and execute state and federal legislative strategies, including policy development, legislative drafting, coalition building, and oral and written testimony.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and analyze legislation affecting healthcare, health insurance, employers, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Build relationships with legislators, regulators, legislative staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate in legislative hearings, regulatory sessions, and meetings on behavioral health, substance use disorder, prescription drug pricing, provider payment, municipal health reform, and utilization management.
  • Prepare concise, time-sensitive policy analysis and advocacy action plans for business leaders and C-suite executives.
  • Manage political action committee responsibilities, including events, budgeting, compliance, and filings.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of experience in a state legislative or executive branch and/or government affairs role.
  • At least 10 years focused on healthcare policy.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare and health insurance policy, including behavioral health, substance use disorder, prescription drug pricing, provider payment, municipal health reform, and utilization management.
  • Advanced analytical skills and outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Established relationships with relevant legislators and regulators, including legislative leadership.
  • Strong relationship management, project planning, and implementation management skills; JD preferred.
