Cost Accountant, Senior

Location: Memphis, Tennessee, or Farmers Branch, Texas; hybrid schedule with 4 days in the office and 1 day remote

What you will do

• Maintain and analyze standard costs covering materials, labor, overhead, freight, and other cost components.
• Analyze product costs, gross margins, inventory, cost of goods sold, operating expenses, and purchase price variances.
• Prepare monthly cost, inventory, margin, and variance reports with clear explanations of business drivers and financial impacts.
• Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Accounting, and Finance to identify cost reduction and efficiency opportunities.
• Build financial models for pricing, sourcing, make-versus-buy decisions, product profitability, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
• Support inventory valuation, reserves, reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, month-end close, audits, controls, and reporting process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of accounting experience, including 3 or more years in cost accounting, financial analysis, manufacturing finance, inventory accounting, FP&A, or a related function.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory valuation, standard costing, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including analytical and financial modeling capabilities.
• Experience with ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and business intelligence platforms.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and stakeholder-partnership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in manufacturing, distribution, apparel, consumer products, or other inventory-intensive industries.
• Experience with bills of materials, routings, purchase price variances, freight analysis, and inventory reserves.
• CPA, CMA, or progress toward a professional certification.
• Experience developing dashboards, automated reports, or analytical tools.
• Experience supporting audits, SOX compliance, or internal controls.
