Junior Data Engineer (DEA)

Location: Arlington, VA; primarily onsite at DEA Headquarters

hirify.global is partnering with Expression, a government technology contractor providing data fusion, analytics, software engineering, IT, and electromagnetic spectrum management solutions to the U.S. national security community.

What you will do

• Support the design, development, and maintenance of ETL pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and loading datasets.
• Assist with migrating legacy data into the modernized DEA investigative and case management ecosystem.
• Analyze data structures, source-to-target mappings, and data-quality checks to identify issues and gaps.
• Execute validation queries, profile datasets, and support data cleaning, standardization, classification, and tagging.
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to implement data transformations and pipeline updates.
• Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot operational issues, document data flows, and participate in Agile development sprints.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and 0–1 years of professional experience.
• Foundational knowledge of data analysis, ETL concepts, data migration, data warehousing, data profiling, validation, and data quality.
• Working knowledge of SQL, including queries, joins, and aggregations.
• Familiarity with Python for data manipulation or automation.
• Introductory experience with ETL or workflow tools such as Apache Airflow, Talend, or similar technologies.
• Secret clearance required, with willingness to pursue TS/SCI clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including cloud data storage or compute platforms.
• Exposure to Hadoop, Spark, or other distributed-processing technologies.
• Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Git, automated data workflows, Agile methodologies, or system modernization.
