AI Applied Scientist (Healthcare AI)

Location: San Bruno, California, United States

Base salary: $219,000–$246,000 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deploy generative AI workflows and multi-agent conversational architectures, including LangGraph-based systems, for personalized interactions and automated symptom triage.
• Build and enhance LLM and NLP tools that extract clinical variables and derived features from unstructured medical text.
• Design automated evaluation pipelines and LLM-as-a-judge rubrics to benchmark agent safety, accuracy, factuality, and compliance.
• Curate EHR and medical claims data into trustworthy, analysis-ready longitudinal datasets.
• Validate privacy boundaries, data quality, and technical safety before production releases.
• Present technical methods, results, and evaluation frameworks to technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in data science, computer science, biomedical informatics, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of industry experience applying machine learning, NLP, and generative AI techniques to clinical or healthcare datasets.
• Direct experience curating real-world healthcare data such as EHRs or medical claims, including unstructured medical text.
• Strong Python skills and proficiency with scientific computing and deep learning libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Nice to have

• PhD in computer science, biomedical informatics, machine learning, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Experience with LangGraph, NVIDIA NeMo, or Parabricks.
• Knowledge of SNOMED-CT, LOINC, RxNorm, ICD-10, FHIR, or OMOP.
• Experience establishing clinical ground-truth benchmarks with subject matter experts.
• Peer-reviewed healthcare AI/ML publications or submitted patents.
