Location: Remote, United States; salary references Brisbane, California and San Francisco Bay Area roles

Base salary: $133,000–$166,000 USD for San Francisco Bay Area roles; $108,000–$135,000 USD for remote US-only roles

What you will do

• Develop and maintain analytical applications with Python, Streamlit, Plotly, Dash, Django, or similar technologies.
• Implement, test, deploy, monitor, debug, and maintain application features and data workflows.
• Productionize statistical models and machine learning workflows and translate R-based research workflows into maintainable Python.
• Build data pipelines and interactive applications integrating clinical data, databases, APIs, documents, and other structured and unstructured sources.
• Contribute to AI features using structured information extraction, retrieval-augmented generation, tool or function calling, and multi-step workflows.
• Collaborate with scientists, clinicians, product stakeholders, and engineers while documenting technical decisions and following healthcare security, privacy, and compliance requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Biostatistics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering, full-stack development, analytics engineering, or a related role.
• Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis and software development.
• Experience with statistical analysis, data science, or machine learning workflows and with transforming prototype, research, or analytical code into maintainable software.
• Experience building analytical applications with Streamlit, Plotly, Dash, or similar technologies and backend services or web applications with Django, FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks.
• Experience building and maintaining data pipelines integrating multiple data sources; familiarity with relational databases, SQL, APIs, and common data formats.
• Applied knowledge of at least one modern LLM capability, including retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, tool calling, or agentic workflows.
• Understanding of AI production considerations including grounding, hallucination mitigation, output validation, security, latency, cost, and human oversight.
• Experience with Git, branching, pull requests, code reviews, automated testing, and debugging across multiple technical layers.
• Ability to independently deliver well-defined features, seek guidance when requirements or risks are unclear, communicate clearly, and demonstrate accountability.

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare, biotechnology, clinical research, or another regulated environment, including sensitive or protected healthcare data.
• Familiarity with HIPAA-aligned application and data-handling practices.
• Experience with Azure, Databricks, or comparable cloud and data platforms.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and automated testing tools such as pytest.
• Experience with pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, statsmodels, or similar data science libraries.
• Experience deploying or supporting production web applications.
• Experience using AI-assisted software development tools such as Codex or similar coding agents.
• Domain knowledge in biological medicine, healthcare, or clinical data and experience communicating technical work to scientific or clinical audiences.
