Senior Counsel - Life Insurance Regulatory Counsel (Remote or Hybrid)

Location: Remote within the USA; hybrid for candidates near Baltimore, Cedar Rapids, Denver, or Philadelphia, with three days in the office.

Salary: $165,000–$185,000 annually, plus potential eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Provide legal advice on the development, filing, offering, and administration of individual life insurance products.
• Support group life, supplemental life, and supplemental health insurance products and services.
• Prepare, review, and negotiate marketing, distribution, administration, TPA, and vendor agreements.
• Research and advise on agent licensing, illustrations, foreign nationals, international business, structured settlements, debt, and estate matters.
• Advise on legal risks, business decisions, escalated claims, and consumer complaints.
• Draft regulatory responses and disclosures, interpret insurance regulations, and collaborate with compliance teams on risk-mitigation policies.

Requirements

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with the Bar of any US jurisdiction.
• At least five years of experience at a sophisticated law firm or as in-house counsel, including insurance regulatory or life insurance experience.
• Knowledge of relevant state and federal insurance laws, rules, and regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication, sound judgment, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency with MS Office and effective organizational and project management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with individual and group life insurance products.
• Experience with voluntary benefits, supplemental health or long-term care insurance, and ACA, HIPAA, and ERISA laws.
• Experience developing creative, cost-effective, and practical legal solutions that support business growth.
