Assistant General Counsel - Clinical (Healthcare)

Location: Hybrid, with in-office work three days per week in Richardson, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Albuquerque, New Mexico; or Helena, Montana.

Base pay: $121,200–$225,200 annually, with eligibility for an annual incentive bonus plan.

What you will do

• Provide strategic and actionable legal advice on health care management, clinical initiatives, benefit plan design, pharmacy, and business operations.
• Support day-to-day business matters and advise business and legal partners with appropriate independence.
• Assess the impact of new and proposed legislation, regulations, rules, and court rulings, and support implementation of new requirements.
• Identify and address regulatory, legal, and business risks in collaboration with business leaders and legal colleagues.
• Advise on issues with cross-functional impact and provide guidance to assigned legal support staff.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, corporate integrity, diversity, and compliance policies.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree and a license to practice law in the state where the legal department is located.
• At least five years of experience practicing law after receiving a law degree.
• Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively with business and legal stakeholders.
• Knowledge of federal and state health care laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience advising insurers, third-party administrators, or health plans on commercial, self-funded, fully insured, managed care, and Affordable Care Act plans.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, health care privacy laws, fraud and abuse laws, false claims acts, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and the Civil Monetary Penalties Law.
• Experience with payment integrity, billing and coding accuracy, population health, utilization management, prior authorization, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Strong business collaboration and legal writing skills.
