Assistant General Counsel - Financial Protection & Retirement Solutions

Location: Hybrid role based in the Hudson Yards office in New York, NY, three days per week, with the ability to work from home two days per week. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Salary: $178,690–$293,560 per year, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Provide legal leadership and advice on the development, administration, claims handling, sale, and distribution of retail and institutional annuity contracts.
• Counsel business partners on insurance and securities laws applicable to annuities, life insurance, and disability insurance.
• Advise senior leadership on reinsurance transactions and other forms of risk transfer.
• Negotiate block and flow reinsurance transactions with third-party insurers, along with customer, administrator, distribution, and vendor agreements.
• Draft and review policy forms, reinsurance treaties, collateral agreements, administrative service agreements, and other business contracts.
• Interface with state and federal regulators and coordinate with regulatory affairs, government relations, compliance, and other cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• J.D. or equivalent law degree and admission to the bar.
• 8+ years of relevant experience at a law firm, insurance company, or financial services institution.
• Experience developing annuity, life insurance, and disability insurance products.
• Experience working with actuaries, risk professionals, and investment professionals.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
