TL;DR
Associate Chemist (Refrigerant Analysis): Performing analytical testing and compatibility, stability, and miscibility experiments for existing and new refrigerant molecules and blends with an accent on fluorochemical analysis, laboratory instrumentation, and safe handling of high-hazard processes. Focus on operating sealed-tube experiments, troubleshooting and calibrating GC/MS, IC, FT-IR, and other laboratory systems, and independently analyzing and documenting experimental data.

Location: Newark, Delaware, United States; onsite laboratory role

Salary: $73,947–$115,542 per year, plus a 6% annual bonus target.

What you will do

  • Perform analytical testing and classification of existing and new refrigerant molecules and blends.
  • Operate sealed-tube experiments involving open flames, molten glass, liquid nitrogen, pressurized vessels, and compressed gas cylinders.
  • Plan and conduct compatibility, stability, miscibility, and formulation experiments.
  • Perform laboratory analysis using GC/MS, IC, titration, FT-IR, and other AHRI 700 methods.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, calibrate, maintain, and upgrade laboratory equipment and test setups.
  • Analyze data, document results, communicate conclusions, and maintain compliance with operating, safety, and environmental requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a similar discipline; alternatively, a high school diploma or GED with at least five years of industrial or manufacturing experience.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining, calibrating, repairing, and troubleshooting analytical laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry and mathematics, with demonstrated problem-solving, troubleshooting, and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to read and follow complex Standard Operating Procedures and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to lift 55 pounds and move drums or containers safely.
  • Basic mechanical skills and ability to use small hand tools.

Nice to have

  • Chemical plant experience in quality analysis or quality control.
  • Experience with open flame, molten glass, hazardous materials, fluorochemicals, gas blending, or sample blending.
  • Proficiency in GC, GC-MS, IC, FT-IR, wet chemistry, and formulation techniques.
